چکیده
T HIS project addresses the development of advanced simulation, planning, and execution technologies for the next generation of computer-assisted surgical systems. The project is a collaboration among researchers and clinicians in bioengineering, computational mechanics, computer science, robotics, and surgery. Total hip replacement surgery, one of the most common procedures in orthopaedic surgery, is targeted because of the anticipated bene ts of high precision and accuracy. Research is necessary in both computational biomechanics and robotics. Research in biomechanics is aimed at developing physics-based simulation tools that provide surgeons with feedback on the mechanical consequences of a given surgical plan. Robotics research seeks to develop technologies to execute these plans accurately and register the bone non-invasively.

Operation planning in craniomaxillofacial surgery.
Surgery in the cranio-maxillo-facial area is complex. However, planning a surgical operation can help the surgeon in enhancing the quality of the operation. On the other hand, progress in planning seems not to be completely justiied if the planning strategy cannot be replicated during its execution. Problems occur during planning as well as during execution. A system that optimally supports the...

Background and objectives: Educational technology is widely used in all parts of medical education. The use and application of common educational technologies and adoption of educational design patterns in medical sciences education can greatly help in medical simulations, training, and improving of clinical skills of nurses and medical students. The aim of this research was to study computer-a...
متن کاملComputer-assisted preoperative simulation for positioning and fixation of plate in 2-stage procedure combining maxillary advancement by distraction technique and mandibular setback surgery
INTRODUCTION Computer-assisted preoperative simulation surgery is employed to plan and interact with the 3D images during the orthognathic procedure. It is useful for positioning and fixation of maxilla by a plate. We report a case of maxillary retrusion by a bilateral cleft lip and palate, in which a 2-stage orthognathic procedure (maxillary advancement by distraction technique and mandibular ...
متن کاملA novel method for the management of proximal segment using computer assisted simulation surgery: correct condyle head positioning and better proximal segment placement
Computer Assisted Simulation Surgery (CASS) is a reliable method that permits oral and maxillofacial surgeons to visualize the position of the maxilla and the mandible as observed in the patient. The purpose of this report was to introduce a newly developed strategy for proximal segment management according to Balanced Orthognathic Surgery (BOS) protocol which is a type of CASS, and to establis...
متن کاملAn integrated simulation-DEA approach to multi-criteria ranking of scenarios for execution of operations in a construction project
The purpose of this study is to examine different scenarios for implementing operations in the pre-construction phase of a project, based on several competing criteria with different importance levels in order to achieve a more efficient execution plan. This paper presents a new framework that integrates discrete event simulation (DES) and data envelopment analysis (DEA) to rank different scena...
